We’re proud to announce we made the list of 2022 Top Workplaces in Iowa! The list was publicly revealed at an awards banquet on September 21, 2022. Webspec was honored alongside businesses and organizations in various industries, including the short list of marketing agencies who received this recognition.
Our company is committed to creating and continuing a work environment that is built on the belief that our team is our greatest asset. “We know that if we take good care of our employees, they’ll take good care of our clients,” said Jeremiah Terhark, founder and CEO of Webspec.
Winners are chosen through objective reviews of employee feedback. After a business or organization is nominated, all employees receive the Energage Workplace Survey to answer questions about company values, leadership, engagement, and benefits, among other imperatives. These results are then compiled, scored, and compared to their Top Workplace benchmark. The companies with the highest overall average scores qualify as Top Workplaces.
The honor means a lot given the changes over the past few years. While we’ve always cared for our employees and tried to cultivate a great company culture, it was an even bigger focus when our team rapidly expanded. This is especially true when we adjusted to the “new normal” during a time of lockdowns and uncertainty.
Webspec started with one employee (Jeremiah), then grew to be a complete websites team including digital marketing, content, designers, developers, and project managers. Our company went through various growth spurts, then experienced rapid expansion in the past five years through organic growth and acquisitions. In 2017, we acquired EDJE and The Design Group, followed by our acquisition of BuildThis in 2019. Those acquisitions, combined with meeting the demands of incoming client work, nearly tripled the size of our team. We even made the Inc. 5000 list for the fastest-growing companies in the US in 2019.
So what happens when a rapidly growing company meets a worldwide pandemic? Transitions. Understanding. Compassion. Flexibility. Everyone had to navigate adjusting to the “new normal,” and we quickly realized it didn’t just mean the physical location of where our employees were working.
To better support our team, we made some adjustments so our employees are able to enjoy what they do on their own terms. Leadership supports our staff through our “work-from-anywhere” setup in addition to flexible scheduling and time off to accommodate everyone’s unique needs, promoting a healthy work/life balance.
Beyond flexibility, our company also greatly values employee feedback and investing in our team’s ongoing training. Leadership holds company meetings with open forums for team members to share feedback and ideas (or funny stories). We also know how important it is to give our employees training opportunities to keep up with the demands of the industry and help them flourish as professionals.
As we continue to grow and evolve as a company, we look forward to continually evolving with the needs of our employees. We can’t thank our team enough for helping us achieve this recognition and for all of the great talent, kindness, and brilliant work they bring to our clients.
