Termageddon is a silly name, but a serious product (their words, not ours). Since 2019, Termageddon has partnered with our application development team to develop and refine their policy generator products.
Project Goals
Prior to partnering with Webspec, Termageddon was using a product that needed a scope change and adaptations to make it work for their purposes. The web application allows the team to do the following:
- Generate privacy policies, terms of use, and end user licenses catered to specific business needs
- Send survey questionnaires so businesses can fill them out and narrow down their legal policy requirements
- Push out updates automatically to customers as law requirements change
- White label and resell privacy policies to future clients
Our Strategy
Improving User Experience
The first matter of importance when it came to improving the Termageddon app and process was to ensure a high-quality user experience. For Termageddon customers, this means being able to create a policy catered to their needs, no matter how complex or specific. To accomplish this, the Webspec team held discussions with the Termageddon team to pare down the amount of questions a customer needs to answer while still getting an end product suited to their needs.
With these changes, customers seeking policies could more easily customize their policies as needed or as suggested by their legal teams. For example, customers purchasing a specific privacy statement can then request to either receive or opt out of automatic updates for specific parts of that policy.
Improved Internal Process Automation
User experience is not only important for the end user of a product, but also for the administrators of the process! In order to make it easy for Termageddon to push out changes to policies globally, the Webspec app development team refactored the system; this involved the addition of versioning, which would allow the team to push out changes while allowing some users to opt out of those changes.
Restructure of a Database
Termageddon additionally worked with Webspec to rewrite their database in order to keep policies separate from the web application. This means that if the app has to go offline for maintenance or an unexpected issue, the policies are still stored as flat files separate from the app. The end result? Policies with a near-100-percent up time, providing the customer with almost a guarantee that their policies will always be available.
Creating a Product for White Label Resale
A significant benefit to the design and development approach we took is the ease with which the Termageddon app can be repurposed and sold by our client. Agencies are a big segment of the Termageddon audience, and those agencies need a policy generator for their own clients that they can easily navigate and use. The ability for agencies to understand the policy questions/survey and guide their customers along that process is a key selling point.
