MidAmerican Energy selected Webspec as their partner in creating a website for their new sports complex in West Des Moines. The MidAmerican RecPlex is a sight to behold with year-round space accommodations for activities like ice skating, soccer, basketball, and even large events like concerts. Our team was eager to design a website from scratch that would be just as impressive.
The Challenge
A challenge for the Webspec and MidAmerican teams was that the facility did not yet exist, so there was a lot of speculative strategy involved in the content and page structure. In the end, we launched with a flexible solution that the client can add onto for months and years to come.
A Facility with Many Rooms Means Web Users with Many Options
The size of the West Des Moines facility is massive and features dozens of opportunities for use. From birthday party rentals to open gym times and large events, the website user experience has to accommodate it all.
Furthermore, due to the nature of the RecPlex being a not-yet-open venue, the website needed flexibility that allows for the MidAmerican staff to change and adapt the site in tandem with their internal processes after opening day. A simple way to accomplish this? One example is the tiled user pathways on the homepage.
