Iowa Educational Services for the Blind & Visually Impaired (IESBVI) is Iowa’s provider of educational services for children ages birth to 21 who are blind and visually impaired. IESBVI works with Iowa’s Area Education Agencies (AEAs) and school districts to provide support for students to successfully learn in and out of the classroom.
The Challenge
IESBVI’s main challenge and concern was to create an accessible website. As an organization that serves the public and especially one whose services are for the blind and visually impaired, it was important to meet and exceed accessibility standards.
Along with accessibility, user experience was a challenge with their previous website. The old site no longer served their users — the design was not responsive on mobile and it didn’t allow its main user groups to easily find the information they needed.
Summary of Solutions
- A clean, mobile-responsive design
- A navigation based on the main users’ needs
- WordPress development
- Content strategy that accurately reflects their services
- SEO strategy that allows users to find them
- “Night mode” togel
- 508 Compliance and WCAG 2.1 AA Standards
Before & After
Webspec worked with the IESBVI team to create a modern design with an intuitive navigation geared toward its three main user groups (students, educators, and parents) that met full ADA requirements. We also made the content more reflective of its statewide services, connecting parents and students with local teachers and consultants across Iowa.
