Search Engine Optimization is moving more and more towards a focus on quality content. Because original and quality content is imperative to having a well ranking website, it is a good idea to begin blogging on a regular basis. Blogs are a great way to increase traffic to your site and writing in-depth articles about specific keywords that you want to increase your website rankings for.

  1. Choose a focus word or phrase
  2. Include the keyword or phrase in the title of the blog post
  3. Include the keyword or phrase at least five times throughout the content of the blog
  4. Write at least 800 words per post, preferably 1000+
  5. Break the post into sections that have headings. Try to have some of the headings contain keywords pertaining to the site. Below are a few examples for how to layout your blog

Type of Blog:  5 Things To…

A 5 Things Blog is an excellent way to provide valuable information while selling your companies services. If you give 5 things to know about “your topic” you will be presented with an opportunity to offer reasons why someone needs your services. For example, let’s say you own a catering company and you write a blog called “5 Things to Know About Wedding Catering Menus”. Here is an example of how to set up your outline and how to wrap up the blog with a sales twist.

Type of Blog: Project Highlight

A great way to get the word out about your recent project is to post a project highlight blog. This type of blog will allow you to list out keywords on your blog that relate to your services. You can also show your expertise through photos of what the project started as and what the finished product looks like. For example, you are the owner of a remodeling company that has just completed a new living room remodel. A great title for this blog would be “(Location: City) Living Room Remodel”.

Type of Blog: Signs You Need To… / Reasons Why You Should…

When you give someone a reason to do something they are more inclined to do it, especially when you give a sense of urgency for fixing the problem, using a product or hiring a service. This blog also provides the opportunity to insert pictures throughout the content of the blog. For example, you own a carpet cleaning business and want to promote your current carpet cleaning special. A great title for this blog would be “Signs You Need Your Carpet Cleaned,” “Reasons Why You Should Have Your Carpet Cleaned”.

Signs You Need Your Carpet Cleaned / Reasons Why You Should Have Your Carpet Cleaned

Wondering when it is time to clean your carpet? We can help with that…Take a look at the sings/reasons you need to have your carpets professionally cleaned.

Type of Blog: Do’s and Don’ts

Do’s and Don’ts can provide value to your customers while also provide you with revenue. An industry that could take advantage of this is the fashion industry. If you own a fashion store you can offer up tips on how to dress for the season.

Blog formats are as important as the content

The great thing about these blog formats is that they will all work for almost any industry. The primary goal of each blog should be to provide value to the people reading it, which will provide value to your site. One secondary goal should be to increase traffic to your site through good SEO, the quality content on the blog will help with this but highlighting keywords will also help out. Another secondary goal should be to sell your product or service. A blog is an excellent marketing tool when used effectively. You don’t have to shove your product or service in the face of the reader the entire way through the blog. It is sufficient to just mention in passing that you provide a service or product to assist with the problem you are addressing modestly throughout the blog and then mention other resources on your website that might be helpful to a reader wanting to learn more. Lastly provide a link to your shopping cart or contact form. Welcome to the world of the bloggers!
